The Human Clock | Call Out for performers/activators at Middlesbrough Art Week (28th September - 7th October 2023)

This is an upcoming opportunity for activating a quirky durational piece over 5 days, during Middlesbrough Art Week. This is a paid position at an hourly rate of £11.

You will operate The Human Clock, a simple clock mechanism which runs throughout the day, activated in relay by a small team of performers/ activators who try to keep time. 

Each activator will work in a team, completing shifts across a 3 or 6 hour period, with breaks.

Key Dates: 

Training half day 11th September in the afternoon. You must be available for the training to take part. 

Performance days; 28th, 29th & 30th September and 6th & 7th October.

Person Specification:

  • Available for half day training on 11th September and to perform on most of these dates:  28th, 29th, 30th September and 6th, 7th October.

  • Have some experience of, or be willing to take part in a durational performance, which can be both fun, absurd and challenging. The performance spans 4 days, at 8 hours each day, and performers are required to perform in a shift pattern during this time.

  • Have an interest in time/ musicality/rhythm/ multi-tasking.

  • Be comfortable standing for up to 1.5 hours at a time

  • Be comfortable chatting with members of the public.

  • Be 16 or over.

  • Be interested in physical theatre /performance and willing to engage with this playful performance.
