Lauryn Brede’s practice challenges parameters surrounding painting and sculpture by utilising and fusing materials. Distorted, twisted and restored artworks are born from destruction; a process-based exploration engaged with subverting notions of categorisation. With no particular narrative, complex ideas are minimised and presented in a simplified manner, anticipating the appearance of raw material and questioning laws of tradition. Asking where the line between the two approaches to painting and sculpture exists. Presentation plays a significant role, merging and combining media, thus forming new forms of art somewhere in-between.
