the auxiliary - under construction

After 18 months (+10 days to be exact) of delays, the building works at The Auxiliary will begin today, 9th September. Its been a long road getting here but fingers crossed the next 6 months will fly and we'll be back in our new building by Spring.

There's a real sense of trepidation now, yes the building will be new and shiny and have more studio spaces, a purpose built gallery, venue and heating- all the bells and whistle. But it'll have doors, key pads and private areas - the auxiliary only had a few hinged/lockable doors, mainly cause I can't fit them so most doors where on sliders with no locks. It ended up creating an ethos of openness and collective ownership of the space.

Auxiliary 2.0 will be a very different beast and a lot will/already has changed, but they say that's a good thing. I'll miss the mushroom wall, our internal water feature aka leaking roof and just the general madness of the place.
