welcome edel
This month we welcome Edel O’Reilly to the team. From programming and production to policy and governance, Edel's works focuses on supporting organisational practices in the visual arts and education across a range of cultural, communal and institutional models.
"I've been really lucky to have enjoyed the kind of work in the arts that has allowed me to experience different aspects of the sector, but the foundation of everything I do comes from my time in artist-led organisations. I'm delighted to join the incredible team at The Auxiliary and Middlesbrough Art Week and excited to contribute to the team at such an exciting time of growth and strategic development."
Edel O'Reilly is an Irish curator and organiser now working as executive director for The Auxiliary and Middlesbrough Art Week. Informed by a background in artist-led initiatives and collaborative production models, she has worked across Ireland, the UK and Europe in curatorial and co-director roles since 2009. On graduating from Crawford College of Art & Design, she co-founded artist-led initiative Cork Contemporary Projects and associated project gallery The Space. In Belfast, she worked as a co-director at Catalyst Arts and was an associate member of Array Studios.
Following post-graduate studies at the Dutch Art Institute, she joined the new exhibition initiative of 'Art and Creative Practices' at Aalto University, Finland where she worked as Curator of Exhibitions, driving strategic development of the university's exhibition activities, improving infrastructure and programming models for the exhibition as an interface to research across art, science and technology. She has previously worked within the exhibition and project teams at Belfast Exposed Photography, Frieze Projects London, Temple Bar Gallery + Studios, Dublin, Boers-Li Gallery, Beijing.
