Loucey Bain
Loucey Bain is a North-East based multi-disciplinary artist, who is mainly concerned with her environment and the architectural involvement of space. After experimenting with a combination of painting, drawing and photography whilst studying at Leeds College of Art, Loucey had already started to acquire a minimalistic language within her work.
This consumed her throughout her time in The Northern School of Art as she began to bring her work off of the canvas and step into installation territory, allowing more possibilities within her practice. Since finishing her degree 4 years ago, Loucey has developed this visual language even further through the use of surrounding environments, buildings such as The Auxiliary Project Space and Pineapple Black had become her playground of influence.
This had led to her first solo show at The Auxiliary, Spatial Narratives in May 2021. Throughout this she has acquired strong influences in the expanded field of painting, architecture and installation. Through her minimalistic drawings and sculptures, she plays with space and scale, creating work that responds to her surroundings. She often utilises materials that are used in building to create works that respond to space, whether that be through physical structure or found objects. Through creating excessive space she is able bring focus to small yet very detailed artefacts, bringing life and substance to them.
