Rachel Blackwell
Rachel Blackwell is a Scottish Artist based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. She graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in 2021 with a BA Hons in Fine Art, where she was awarded the Generator Projects Award. She exhibited this year as part of the Royal Scottish Academy’s ‘RSA New Contemporaries 2023’ where she won the RSA Art Prize.
Alongside this, she is currently competing for the North East Emerging Artist Award 2023 in association with the National Trust. She makes work inspired by archaeology, ecology, geology and mysticism.
Her work explores the tradition of divination and its different iterations through history, considering how sooth saying might manifest in the modern world of skepticism and science. Working in metal and stone, her sculptures make reference to ancient and mystical artefacts.
