What can we expect from Industrial Coast this MAW?
Industrial Coast will present one show as part of MAW. Its Thursday 5 October, at the Auxiliary, and will feature A Man Called Adam - Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones, who are regarded as pivotal in the development of the electronic music genres acid jazz, Balearic house, Chill Out and Nu British House.
Sally & Steve will present works from their recent release – A Girl with a hole in her heart. Concerning the dismantling of the Steel Works, it’s a perfect fit for us here at Industrial Coast…’’a record that strolls a windswept coastline where lime-grass dunes rise and fall like slumbering megafauna. The album walks the ugly, lovely industrial coastline of the North East of England, stopping at points to soak up the breathtaking scenery and watch everyday life carrying on in the face of rapid de-industrialisation.’’
We also have a very special guest the Andrea Parker - beyond excited!

What are you excited to see from the programme this year?
Its fantastic that MAW is extended to a week for the 1st time – so its very exciting all round. If I had to choose must sees, Saeborg of course looks stunning, I love the work of Olivia Louvel and it’ll be great to see Rachel Deakins brilliant photography – we are so grateful to Rachel for documenting our A Monday Night in Middlesbrough programme this year & its been great to work with her.
You're working on a project with Jayne Dent, can you tell us a little bit more about what that entails?
Jayne will be performing during MAW as Me Lost Me. We are helping with the production of a limited edition cassingle (a single track cassette) which will only be available at the show. The work is in response to a conversation Jayne had with former miner Stephen Maitland in the spring of 2023 and is part of a project, Untold Stories. Jayne has a wonderful voice, & it’s a beautiful track.

What is your opinion of Cassettes?
I love cassettes! Vinyl is great, but for a small operation, the monetary outlay for production, & long lead times make it prohibitive. Cassettes are pretty much instantaneous. Physical product is with me less than 2 weeks after I order production. Not only does this mean you start getting your cash back quickly, but its also timely for the artist – the product is out there when its reflecting their current musical state.
They also look great and, crucially, as cassette decks and the tapes them selves have had glitches ironed out over the years, they don’t unravel on a regular basis like the used to when I was a kid. No pencils required (you have to be of a certain age to know what the hell I’m going on about here).
What Charity are you raising money for with the sale of the Cassettes at MAW?
The charity is to be chosen by Jayne & Stephen. As a label, we have donated to many organisations across our 5 years in operation, including to Redhills, the Durham Miners Hall. But I’m leaving this choice to the artists concerned!
Can you give us some more details about the acts we're expected to see on Industrial Coasts lineup?
As above – we have A Man Called Adam who I’m really looking forward to. There are to be additions, including a very special guest, but I’m afraid that remains under wraps for a few more days. Sorry!
We do bookend MAW with 2 further shows at the Auxiliary.
Monday 25 September – Glyn Maier (North Carolina), Death Disco (Manchester), Night Foundation (Miami) & Laura Alise Lydon (Newcastle). This is a stacked bill and should not be missed.
